Lake 8262
Is unquestionably the prettiest of the Red Mountain/Cat Lakes area. However, since I was here last time in 2006,
the trash brothers have been visiting. There was far more garbage than last time, and far more than I would
have expected at such an obscure little lake. So much so that 1) It was unquestionably brought in on
a pack animal, because no backpacker is going to haul in multiple bottles of booze, and 2) way more than
I could clean up and haul out, which I would have normally done. At one point at the end of 7850 I stumbled across two
5-gallon buckets. I kind of wondered if they might have been dragged in and left by the crews fighting the fires. Who knows.

Lake 8262 from well down the Red Mountain ridge. |
And Lake 8262 from the old lookout. Sadly, an partially overcast, and smoky day. Not good for picture-taking. |
