Bear Valley Hot Spring - the Wildlife!

Generally you see a lot more ladies, than gentleman, but this guy showed up, gloriously in velvet, probably knocking the socks off the ladies that were there.

To get a lot of these pictures, I had kept myself more or less hidden behind various trees, and got close enough to not have to use much telephoto. Kind of interesting, but if they don't see you actually move, you are apparently discounted as a threat. However, one wave of the arm, or step forward, and they're outta here!

This little lady is a bit scruffy, but hey! she just had to swim the river to get over here.

Hmmm, I musta moved. Maybe I blinked my eye, eh?

Its a little early for him to be 'gathering his harem', but he seems to be checking out the locals.... 'Hey, honey, wanna dance?' Looks like the lady on the right is saying, "Bug off, bugaloo.

This one has just swum the river, which at this point is a raging torrent. At one point, she is being carried downstream by the current. She didn't seem to mind in the least, and just kept pumping those skinny little legs until she arrived at the other side.

This lady showed up in the afternoon, and was with me for a long time. She seemed to not be quite so intimidated by my presence there. However as you can see in the picture below, she kept a good eye on just what I was doing.

Most of the time, other than grazing, what they were doing was licking the chemicals off the rocks. They don't need a selenium block, they have the hot spring!
