Crimson Lake, hiking to Lake 8565!
Another grand hike in Idaho!

Aside from the incredible beauty that the mountains represent, the colors in this area were breathtaking! The guidebook I was using, said that the only way they kept it from getting into the hands of the mine developers was to get it included in the Frank Church wilderness. Which took some maneuvering as it was technically outside the boundaries set for that wilderness. Thankfully they did!

An alternative camping destination a ways down the lake. Had to pass through it to get to the dayhiking destinations!

One spectacular destination, and one teeming with Cutthroat trout.

One of a couple of 'entrances' to this lake. This one coming from the lake above and to the northwest.

Not sure what was so interesting... but it has the attention of these two boys. On the other hand, Bogdan is more interested in what is hidden in the panniers!

A little island in the lake is pretty, but one with flowers? (For anything else, you need... oh never mind)

1) It isn't as shallow as it looks; and 2) The water was of exceptional clarity...

Seen from this perspective, the lake's size is more pronounced.

Not sure what transpired here, but I became entranced with waterfalls/outflows. So you have to either live with it, or go to somewhere there is an interesting link. :-)

This is sort of the 'Grand Canyon' of lake 8565 above Crimson Lake.

So Coffee Bean wants to know, where does all this water come from, anyway. It certainly is more than I can drink!

Looking at this, you just have to wonder, is there really any water in that pool?

Looking at the surrounds on the way, their beauty is intoxicating!

We're getting close to the lake (Lake 8565) now, I can see the walls of the cirque! Meanwhile, I am wondering, how do they know where to put their back feet as they traipse quickly across this mess?

The outlet.

Incredible. Hard to believe that this is a 'fallen' creation.

Speaking of 'fallen', an old soldier from a long-distant generation.

Once again, the water clarity is astounding. Also, remember this is the 1st of August, and that snowbank is alive and well.

This particular iceberg is somehow clueless that it should have melted some time back.

From another angle, the colors... beautiful!

This is the visual aid for 'hanging on'!

Another 'old soldier', doing his best to retain some semblance of his 'presence'.

And finally, the outflow, traveling down to Crimson.

A final shot of Lake 8565's surrounds.

My original plan was to circle the cirque so I didn't have to lose any altitude, and access the lake on the northwest edge of this area. So much for plans. I got stopped by a granite face that I lacked the courage to attempt to cross, so time for plan 'B'. And that was... retrace my steps, descend to Crimson, have lunch, and attempt lake 2 from ground level.

And we were so nice and high, too! There is nothing that I hate like giving up altitude that is so hard-gained!

Another 'Old Soldier'. This one has undoubtedly seen 'many seasons'.

Ahhhh... back at the lake and looking forward to lunch.
