Crimson Lake, hiking in!
Another grand hike in Idaho!

This entire route to Crimson Lake (and beyond), like so many others, is in a burn area... on the other hand, what part of Idaho isn't a burn area...

With the exception of a few isolated plots of green, most of this area is what you see above, concentrated ugly. I'm so glad that our government has managed this so well.

George isn't worried about no stinkin burn areas, he just wants to eat!!

Coffee Bean is sure that the vittles are much better over there!

Pretty much the first thing this trail does is go up and a long way over a rock face that abuts the river. So in essence you are beginning a nearly 11 mile grind, with a grind!

A little further on...

This fella decided that he liked the looks of the meadow much better than locked up to the cliff above.

This is the West Fork, of the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River

Just in case you ever wanted to hike in a war zone... here's your opportunity.

This is Red Mountain, one of at least two in Idaho. It actually is really red, but the smoke in the air from the Oregon fires has pretty much put pictures with accurate color in the toilet!

One of the prettier sections of the trail, missed somehow by the consuming fire

Somehow it just tastes better if you can get up in the air to eat it.

George doesn't care about eating at this point, he just wants to get UP!

A look at the hills on the last stage of this hike. That stage being about 3mi of brutal UP!

When we got there, the boys were tired and SO WAS I!

Too tired to do anything except stand in one place and veg!
