The Rainbow Lakes Basin, in the Trinity Mountains Recreation Area
Another grand hike in Idaho!

This one was pushing the envelope in a major way. November in Idaho at 8000+ feet is no time to be contemplating a hiking venture.
However we had a supposedly sunny day pop up on the weather prognosticator's website, and I decided to go for it. Turned out
that the weather guy's prophesying was only close to the actual, but it was a passable day, and it was fun to get in just one more hike
in 2018. Keep in mind that the pictures are, for the most part, pretty blah, as the sun was blah as it always is this time of year, and
was having to shine through a whitish sky as well as persistent clouds kept making their presence known.

The trailhead was at 7800', and the top of the first pass was 8440'

Big Roaring River Lake. This was is a 'drive to' with the requisite FS campground

Trinity Lake, the largest of the lakes in this area, and the TH as well

Big Trinity Lake from above, on the way to the top of the pass, at 8440'

A panorama of the mountains behind and to the south of Big Trinity Lake

A collection of thoroughly boring trail pictures, but a clear representation of what we were in all day long. And since we did a fair amount of off-trail work, it was difficult at best

A long shot of the trail to the top of the pass

The last part of the trail to the top of the pass. What this clearly shows is that we were the only individuals (i.e., the others had more brains) that had the panache to attempt this area at this time of the year in these conditions. It was kind of fun being the only ones in this very large area all day. :-)

A panorama of the area to the northeast, looking at the mountains at the bottom of the Sawtooth Wilderness

The lookout at the top of Trinity Mountain, 9451. And yes I know it is hard to see. For those with challenges, it is right at the very top of the mountain. Duh...

Green Island Lake. A lake in the late stages of reverting to a meadow

I thought this one was fun as it was clear that some critter was assembling his 'stores' for the winter

Little Lookout Lake

Big Lookout Lake

Heart Lake... and the lunchroom for the day

Big Rainbow Lake

Middle Rainbow Lake

Hideaway Lake... and it is. It is the dickens to find, and high!

Little Rainbow Lake. Only saw it on the way back, as we bushwhacked from Middle Rainbow up to Hideaway (a real grunt!), then took the trail back
