Jennie Lake!
Jennie Lake is the closest high mountain lake to Boise. It is NNE of Boise and is at 7800+ feet of altitude. It is listed in the guides as a family friendly hike,
but I have to take exception to that as it is just until 2000' of altitude gain, and a considerably difficult trail. Due to its location, it is loved a bit too much
and if it is solitude you are seeking, look elsewhere. The day we dayhiked to Jennie, the weather was far less than ideal. We had snow pellets off and on all
the way up, and a brief blizzard up near the lake (remembering that this is June 21, the longest day of the year, and the beginning of Summer!) Lunch was had at the lake, did
a bit of reconnoitering, and headed back down. I had forgotten to bring gloves, thinking 'Hey, its Summer!' and therefore my hands were a candidate for frostbite. This was
hardly a day for taking pictures, so they are not what they could have been with sun. As the day progressed on our way back to the TH, the sun began to intermittently
peek out from between the clouds, and made an ineffectual attempt to thaw our almost frozen digits. The final picture on the trail actually got a peek at the sun, so looks bright.

Beginning with great expectations

Higher up, possibly around the 2 mile point

Bear Creek. It occupies the drainage you follow all the way to the lake.
