Dugway Canyon, Pleasanton, NM

Beginning the trek down the canyon

Like all slot canyon hiking, careful attention must be paid to potential weather events up the canyon from where you are. Flash floods are common

Obviously this lichen-covered rock has fallen since the last time this canyon flooded

These rocks had quite a collection of different colored lichens/moss

We seem to have worked our way through the canyon on the way to the river

I am always fascinated by a tree like this that has managed to survive the many floods it has been exposed to over time

Looking upriver. Maxie has already tapped the river for refreshment

Downriver. The river is much higher than normal following a day and a half of rain

Starting back up the canyon. Gila mountains in distance with recent snow

It was at this point that the camera packed it in. CHANGE THE BATTERIES! it noted. This is the first time in all the years that I have had this camera that it is said good-bye during a trip, in spite of having taken hundreds of pictures on one charge.
